JOB TITLE: Civil Technician

JOB STATUS: Non -Exempt

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK PERFORMED:

The Civil Technician shall have in depth knowledge of civil (water and wastewater) infrastructure and construction to provide support and assistance for the Authority’s engineering staff on a wide variety of projects. These projects vary from installation of residential utility services to construction of large transmission infrastructure projects. The Civil Technician will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of engineering studies, infrastructure designs (construction plans and specifications), permits, construction estimates, utility mapping, utility locating, construction inspection, and administrative tasks.

This position includes field and office duties and requires sound technical knowledge with practical application to specific projects. Civil Technician may be required to respond to emergency situations after normal work hours.

DESIRABLE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma (or GED) is required with an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, construction management, or geographic information systems is desired. Applicant should have a minimum of 3 years of experience with general construction, of which 1 year of experience should be specific to water and/or wastewater infrastructure construction. Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet management, ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and WaterCAD is preferred.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS MAY INCLUDE (But are not limited to):

1. Technology skills as noted above.

2. Must be able to lift and carry light loads.

3. Must be able to work in water and wastewater environments.

4. Must be able to perform differential leveling tasks.

5. Must be knowledgeable in water and wastewater infrastructure construction methods.

6. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing.

7. Must be able to accept written and oral instruction.

8. Must be insurable on Authority's auto insurance policy.

9. Must be able to work inside and outside.

10. Must maintain a residence which allows a reasonable response time.

11. Must be able to distinguish colors.

12. Must be physically able to probe for extended periods.

13. Must be able to tolerate outside and inside work environments.

REPORTS TO: Construction Project Supervisor

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.15 - $28.27 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
