    Statement of the Job:

    The University of Maine School of Computing and Information Science (SCIS) seeks applicants for a Computer Science teaching faculty position at the rank of lecturer, with an anticipated start date of September 3, 2024. This is an ongoing, nine-month, academic-year position.


    The successful candidate will be expected to be an effective and engaging teacher, to advise undergraduate students, and to collaborate with colleagues to refine curriculum, recruit students, and increase student success. The typical teaching assignment is three courses per semester at the undergraduate level. Some service to the School, College, and University is expected. It is assumed that 90% of the lecturer’s time and effort will be dedicated to teaching-related duties, and 10% to other activities, including service and activities that advance the lecturer’s professional development. Summer teaching opportunities may be available, with additional compensation.

    Qualifications:

    Required:

    • A graduate degree in computer science or a closely related discipline is required by date of hire.
    • Documented successful college-level teaching.
    • Documented effective written and oral communication skills.

    Preferred:

    • We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach a wide range of computer science courses from the introductory to advanced undergraduate levels; specific topics include but are not limited to introductory and intermediate programming, computing foundations, computing systems, computing applications, and cybersecurity.
    • Documented participation in activities promoting inclusive excellence.
    • A record of successful performance in collaborative settings.
    • A record of involvement in developing or assessing curriculum or pedagogy.
