South Central Public Health District (SCPHD) is currently recruiting for a WIC Clinical Assistant to join our dedicated group of public health professionals supporting our Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program in our Division of Family and Clinic Services located in our Twin Falls office.     Description:

    To perform paraprofessional clinical duties; establish and maintain client records, gather client data; provide health and community program resource information to clients; perform related work.

    Typical Duties:

    1.Interviewing:

    Interviews clients to obtain and document detailed personal data including health and dietary information; compares data with established standards and documents in record; explains services and programs; determines client eligibility; uses information to establish need and adapt services for clients.

    2.Clinic:

    Sets up clinic for nutrition, family planning, child health, immunizations, and/or communicable diseases; maintains clinic areas using aseptic techniques; monitors lab proficiency testing and equipment standardization; maintains inventory of clinic supplies; obtains and plots growth measurements; obtains lab samples (hematocrit, urine, cholesterol and throat), processes, and reads results; may obtain blood pressure reading; may conduct screenings for hearing, vision, and development; prepares clients for tests or exams.
    Information dissemination:

    3.Describes program requirements, client rights, and obligations during the intake process; informs clients of other community health and social service resources; offers and reviews clinic literature with client based on identified problems; explains use of program benefits; provides health and nutrition information to groups and individuals using professionally prepared materials; distributes program outreach materials.

    4.Clerical:
    Establishes and maintains client records; schedules and reminds clients of clinic appointments; contacts clients about program services; compiles data for program reports; maintains inventory of office supplies; types labels and forms; answers telephone and performs receptionist duties; may collect and receipt fees, and account for vouchers to pay for services; may issue certificates or vouchers for specific services or supplies; uses personal computers to collect, store, and retrieve client data.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Some knowledge of: health and nutritional needs of adults and children.
    Experience interviewing and eliciting personal information.

    Experience adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

    Experience recording information accurately and legibly.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    High School Diploma or GED certificate.

    Preferred Bilingual, fluent in English and Spanish

    Supplemental Information:

    Incumbent may be exposed to a noisy and crowded work environment, communicable diseases, and to hostile or aggressive clients. Most positions involve lifting and carrying children and objects such as audiovisual equipment, boxes or educational materials weighing up to 50 pounds. These positions may require travel within a local service area.
