Open Doors English Summer Educator Job Description

Open Doors English (ODE) summer educators provide English language instruction to adult speakers of other languages for a eight week summer session from June 24th-August 16th.

Summer educators deliver English instruction that is appropriate and accessible across communicative modalities (reading, writing, listening, & speaking) in order to support English language learners in pursuing and maintaining employment, higher education, & community & civic engagement.

ODE summer educators are hired on an as needed basis. Hours and schedule are determined by the ODE co-directors. Summer positions are 4 or 8 hours of instruction with 2 or 4 hours paid prep time per week.

ODE educators must respect students and their myriad cultures, languages, and experiences. ODE exists to serve a unique and vulnerable population, and it is essential for ODE educators to hold students’ gifts and needs in high regard.

Duties and Responsibilities of ODE Summer Educators:
● prepare for and provide ESL instruction that is appropriate and accessible for students
● monitor students’ progress and modify instruction accordingly
● provide a positive, supportive learning environment with high expectations for students
● maintain class records (attendance)
● attend staff meetings
● maintain open and clear communication with ODE co-directors and colleagues
