The Department of Art, Design and Letters at Converse University invites applications for a full time, assistant professor position to begin in Fall 2024.

The candidate will teach courses in the area of Interior Design and other Departmental courses as needed, advise undergraduate students of Interior Design, assist in recruitment activities, assist in program assessment activities, and when requested teach First Year Seminar and Interdisciplinary Courses. The candidate will serve on Department, School of the Arts, and University committees and provide service at the Department, School, and University levels as appropriate.

Qualifications must include a Master's Degree in Interior Design or a closely related field from an accredited institution (either the undergraduate or the graduate degree must be in Interior Design), college level teaching experience, and practice experience. NCIDQ certification is required for applying for tenure.

Professional knowledge must include design theories, programming, residential and commercial design, building regulations and product standards, human factors, environmental psychology, universal design, sustainable design, lighting, building systems, and CIDA's Standards.

Skills required are sketching, drafting, presentation graphics, and the use of design software. Preference will be given to candidates able to use and teach AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, InDesign, and Photoshop. The successful candidate will have an interest in sponsoring study travel, continue to improve their design and technical knowledge, maintain a membership in a professional organization, develop beneficial relationships with regional practitioners and industry members, and work well within a creative and collaborative environment dedicated to a culture of learning and social responsibility.

The Department of Art, Design and Letters is located within the School of the Arts and is comprised of exceptional multi-disciplined programs in art and interior design. Fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), it is housed in the Milliken Fine Arts Building. At 30,000 square feet, there are designated classrooms in ceramics, sculpture, photography, printmaking, digital media, painting and drawing, and interior design.
