    Position Description Summary
    Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania invites applications for temporary faculty positions (full-time one semester, part-time one semester or part-time academic year) as needs arise in the Department of Environmental Geographical and Geological Sciences (EGGS).
    A hidden gem in Pennsylvania, our interdisciplinary program is both broad and sufficiently in-depth to prepare environmental scientists, watershed specialists, geologists, hydrologists, geographic information systems specialists, soil scientists, conservation officials, fish and game officers, and emergency managers for rewarding careers right out of school or to be competitive for graduate school.

    Duties
    Based on the specific needs of the department at the time of appointment, a successful applicant must be qualified to teach introductory and/or upper-level courses in Soil Science.

    Applicants would be expected to teach at least one section of an existing Soil Science course in the Environmental, Geographical, and Geological Sciences curriculum. They would be responsible for teaching the content material, grading, holding office hours, and submitting final grades for the semester.

    EGGS 213 Fundamentals of Soil Science
    EGGS 313 Soil Morphology Practicum (Soil Judging)
    EGGS 413 Soil Morphology, Genesis, and Classification
    EGGS 414 Soil Biology, Chemistry, and Fertility
    EGGS 415 Hydric Soils and Wetland Delineation
    EGGS 416 Applied Soil Science and Land Use

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


    • MS with at least 4 years of professional experience in the field
    • Degree in Soil Science or demonstrably related field
    • Academic specialization, prior teaching experience, and/or prior professional experience relevant to course assignment needs of the department at the time of the appointment



    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    • Prior experience teaching Soil Science with an applied skills focus
    • Prior experience coaching soil judging teams
    • Professional expertise in Soil Science
    • Certification as a Professional Soil Scientist (CPSS)

    Background Clearances
    Offers of employment are conditional, pending successful completion of the background clearances mandated by Act 153 of 2014 and Board of Governors Policy 2014-01-A: Protection of Minors. In order to qualify for a provisional appointment, the Applicant Acknowledgement Consent Form, Provisional Hire Form, Pennsylvania State Police and Justifacts portion of the clearance process must be successfully completed prior to your start date. The remaining PA Child Abuse History Clearance and FBI Clearance must be successfully completed and returned as soon as possible within the first 90 days of employment.
