Oglethorpe University’s mission pledges to prepare our students to be responsible and productive contributors in a global society and we are committed to diversifying the course offerings at Oglethorpe. Student interest is not limited to wanting a deeper understanding of the experience of people of color living in the United States or the Western diasporas generally. Oglethorpe University is interested in offering our students a deeper history of non-Western peoples and the societies with which they identify. Diversifying our course offerings in a global context is part of the University’s commitment to finding progressive ways to respond to the needs and interests of our diverse student body. This position offers an opportunity to expand and deepen the offerings of the History program as well as help develop the curricular content of Oglethorpe’s Core Curriculum.

We welcome applicants who are committed to innovative pedagogies, including the development of learning opportunities beyond the classroom that take advantage of the rich opportunities available in metropolitan Atlanta and its environs. We value faculty mentorship and support faculty teaching, research, and development through the Office of the Provost which works closely with the Special Assistant to the President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

The university currently enrolls a diverse population of nearly 1,500 students representing more than 30 states and 30 countries. More than half of Oglethorpe’s students identify as persons of color and 40 percent are the first in their families to attend college. Candidates from historically excluded groups whose work furthers the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and who bring varied life experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Please send a curriculum vitae with a list of references, a cover letter with a teaching philosophy statement addressing the liberal arts environment, and evidence of successful teaching and a commitment to teaching and mentoring students from various social, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Questions may be directed to Dr. Nick Maher at nmaher@Oglethorpe.edu. The first round of interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
