    POSITION SUMMARY
    The Community College of Aurora is looking for an innovative, inclusive, equity-minded, and engaging educator to teach History and Social Sciences courses through inclusive and student-centered learning strategies both face-to-face and online. CCA is committed to quality instruction and maintains high academic standards as well as a strong commitment to the success of our students. Educators in the History program are continually working to refine pedagogy, practice, and assessment to improve outcomes for all students, particularly those with marginalized or minoritized identities. We are a department that values collaboration and experimentation, and we're looking for a colleague who shares these values.

    The successful candidate for this position will be responsible for teaching courses in a variety of history and other social sciences courses. The faculty member will support Concurrent Enrollment instructors through observations, mentorship, and professional development. They will work collaboratively with colleagues across the college, participating in committee assignments and other academic and institutional support activities; CCA is an institution that encourages faculty to be involved in service to the college, including service that contributes to institutional decision-making. The responsibilities of this position will include: participating in the development and updating of curricula; actively engaging students; contributing to instructional planning and assessment; pursuing continued professional development in subject matter and instructional methods; and supporting student activities. Ultimately, the successful candidate will be a creative educator who values diversity, is committed to DEI, and works well in a collaborative environment.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



    • Maintain expertise in the subject area;
    • Develop inclusive lesson plans, activities, and assessments that lead students to the successful attainment of identified course competencies and outcomes;
    • Participate in innovations in instruction and culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies that foster completion and retention for all students;
    • Promote student success through inclusive, accessible, challenging, equity-minded, and engaging instruction that centers student voice and ways of knowing;
    • Implement current and effective teaching and learning practices, including diversification of instructional delivery, incorporation of diverse sources and voices into curriculum, and demonstration of cultural competency in teaching;
    • Evaluate student performance in a constructive, timely, and effective manner as stated in the course syllabus;
    • Teach assigned classes in History and other social sciences both face-to-face and online while keeping with the CCA mission and vision;
    • Engage with Concurrent Enrollment instructors on and off CCA campus;
      • Observations of Concurrent Enrollment instructors on site at local high schools.
      • Providing write ups and feedback for instructors.
      • Mentoring instructors through professional development and meetings.
      • Serve as point of contact for CE instructors.
    • Engage in service to the college;
    • Participate in all departmental and college-wide assessment practices;
    • Complete all required instructional professional development activities including a departmental orientation and multiple trainings during their first semester;
    • Participate in continued discipline- or teaching-specific professional learning;
    • Stay current with and implement expectations by reading emails regularly and attending departmental, divisional, and college meetings as called by the Chair, Dean, Vice President of Academic Success, and President;
    • Understand and uphold the vision, mission, and values of the college, while abiding by all relevant CCA guidelines, and CCCS/SBCCOE policies and procedures;
    • According to established timelines and expectations, create and provide a course syllabus for each assigned class to the department. Provide students with department-approved syllabi by the first day of classes in the LMS;
    • Maintain accurate records according to department/division/college expectations and guidelines, including Instructional Guideline 2.11, in the college LMS - Desire2Learn (D2L). Submit required records according to published instructions and deadlines;






    MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:
    • An in-hand Master's degree in History or one of several related disciplines (Geography, Humanities, Philosophy). Or any Master's degree with 18 graduate credits in History or related discipline.
    • Community College teaching experience.
    • Online teaching experience.
    • Concurrent Enrollment teaching experience.
    • Leadership experience working with instructors.
    • Demonstrated willingness to learn about and incorporate diversity, equity, and inclusion in instruction.

    PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge and practice in inclusive pedagogy/andragogy.
    • Dedication to active, learner-centered teaching methods.
    • Experience designing and delivering curriculum.
    • Experience with course level and institutional level assessment.
    • Instructional coaching experience.



    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

    Salary Range: Anticipated starting salary range: $50,829.00-$71,080.00. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information. CCA offers an excellent benefit plan, including generous leave, holiday, and education benefits. Full time employees immediately upon hire earn 15 hours a month annual leave and 10 hours a month sick leave.
