Performing Arts Internship - Summer 2024

  • The John Michael Kohler Arts Center, a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts complex, is seeking a Performing Arts Intern for the summer. Candidates will work closely with the Performing Arts (PA) Program Director and other staff members to support programming in Performing Arts Programming, the Social STUDIO, and special projects. The primary focus will be working on the Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series. 
     
    Responsibilities: 
    • Assist with the implementation of activities in the Community Tent at Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series 
    • Assist with any summer residency engagement activities including curating participants, event set up and tear down and artist assistance.  
    • Facilitate visitors’ experience in the Social STUDIO as needed 
    • Assist with Arts Center special events, including Levitt AMP on Thursday nights throughout the summer, Midsummer Festival of the Arts on July 15 & 16, Chair City event at Tellen Sculpture Garden, and Art Center’s participation in 4th of July parade  
    • Create social media content for the Levitt AMP Sheboygan Music Series, conducting Facebook Live interviews with artists, community members, vendors, and/or sponsors  
    • Write educational packets for upcoming Performing Arts residencies 
    • Participate in PA departmental meetings, Public Programs meetings, and weekly check-ins  
    • Assist in development of new JMKAC movement symposium 
    • Scan and archive documents relating to Performing Arts 
    • Occasionally move supplies weighing up to 30 pounds 
    • Work in outdoor weather conditions 
     
    Qualifications: 
    • Ability to remain flexible within a dynamic and fast-paced work environment. 
    • Ability to communicate effectively with many constituencies, including coworkers, department heads, Arts Center patrons, and artists-in-residence, in all modes, including written communication, video chat, email, phone, and in person 
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications 
    • Strong interest and experience in Performing Arts 
    • Familiarity with hands-on art making processes and various material knowledge is a plus 
    • Excellent written and oral communications skills 
    • Proficient in social media platforms 
    Summer 2024 Internship Dates 
     

    June 4-August 23, 2024 (may be flexible), 29 hours a week, including nights and weekends.  
    This is a paid internship.  Interns may also be eligible to receive course credit for this internship through their school, but it is the intern's responsibility to pursue this option through their school or university.
