  • TAPA: Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts, an academically rigorous public charter school for the arts, seeks a well-rounded and enthusiastic Spanish-speaking school social worker to provide counseling services in both an appointment-based and drop-in manner. The Social Workers (we have two) at TAPA provide supports to students in a number of ways. This includes providing direct student support to a caseload of TAPA students needing short-term on-site counseling, providing social-emotional education to classes of students, as well as the coordination and management of student care with outside agencies. TAPA’s anti-oppression creative community is enriched by the cultural, religious, racial, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of our neurodiverse families, students, and employees. Demographically, nearly all members of the TAPA student body are people of color, predominantly Latinx, with most students speaking both English and Spanish in their homes. A significant portion of TAPA’s student body identifies as members of the LGBTQ community. It is an organizational priority for TAPA to hire staff members who have cultural commonalities with our students and families. About the position TAPA is looking for a compassionate, dedicated school social worker to support the psychological and social well-being of our students. We have a complex student body, with multiple psychosocial and educational needs. This social worker must be attuned to that, and familiar with the needs of urban adolescents. The School Social Worker is an essential member of the Student Supports Team, and reports directly to the Head of School. Primary Responsibilities of TAPA’s Social Workers With Students:
  • Listen to students’ issues when they come looking for help, and provide support and discuss solutions with them.
  • Provide social skills, anger management, stress reduction or other similar instruction to students.
  • Provide short-term individual or group counseling to students.
  • Monitor, maintain case files, and report on students’ progress.
  • Identify students who need a higher level of care or support, and refer them to external partners.
  • Monitor the progress students make with external partners, serve as the liaison between the partner and the school, and manage the student’s transition into and out of the external program. With Families:
  • For the acute student issues you are managing, provide information and assistance to families to help them understand a student’s challenges, and equip them with the tools necessary to support their student.

  • Coordinate home, school and community resources at times when students are in crisis.
  • Provide information to parents and families about services available within the community, make referrals to community providers, and coordinate between the family, the provider, the student, and the school With Staff And School Leaders
  • Support the Student Support Team in Developing and implementing intervention and prevention programs, especially Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
  • Provide staff with essential information to better understand factors (cultural, societal, economic, familial, health, etc.) affecting a student.
