Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Mechanical Engineering

  • General Summary of Position:

    The Francis College of Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is searching for outstanding candidates for one full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Mechanical Engineering. For this tenure-track position, we seek candidates with expertise in topics that complement existing departmental strengths including but not limited to: (a) structural health monitoring, (b) modeling and analysis of dynamic systems; (c) thermofluids and energy systems; (d) aerospace engineering; (e) robotics; or (f) other advanced topics relevant to mechanical engineering. A higher priority will be placed on the originality and potential impact of the candidate's work rather than on their area of specialization. The appointment is scheduled to begin September 2024.

    The new faculty will have opportunities to collaborate in research and teaching with faculty across our six engineering departments. We value excellence and innovation in curriculum design and courses that promote experiential learning and professional skills for our students.

    The Francis College of Engineering includes 120 faculty members, 30% of whom are women, and has just under 3,000 undergraduate and over 1,000 graduate students.     Minimum Qualifications (Required):

    • Applicants must have earned a doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline by the start of the appointment.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship

    • Record of successful teaching experience at the college level
    • Postdoctoral research and previous experience working with industry
    • Commitment to develop and sustain a robust, externally funded research program
    • Dedication to teach undergraduate and graduate levels in Mechanical & Industrial Engineering
    • The ability to work effectively with diverse groups
    • Candidates with experience in engineering education and design of effective and inclusive pedagogical approaches will be given strong consideration
