  • Job Summary:

    The CMO plays a key role in the development of a regional health care system through supporting a system wide organizational culture that fosters cooperation and harmonious relations between system and hospital corporations, their employees and management and medical staffs. The CMO guides the coordination, integration, and standardization of clinical activities which are designed to meet the stated mission of the organization while optimizing operations across all entities.

    Essential Requirements:

    1. Works collaboratively as an active member of the Leadership Team to build and support a culture that promotes exceptional care and service excellence through mentoring, alignment of behaviors and commitment to our Journey to Excellence.

    2. Consults with the President and the Board Chairs with respect to provider representation on and appointment to the Board committees.

    3. Oversees the design, implementation and monitoring of a comprehensive provider’s quality assurance/quality improvement plan and constituent projects for the hospital.

    4. Actively participates in the Peer Review, Quality Cooperative Committee, UCVH's multidisciplinary Quality Improvement programs.

    5. Advise the President and Medical Staff Coordinator on medical-administrative and medical-legal issues.

    6. In concert with the President, develops and administers clearly defined performance expectations and appropriate evaluation methodologies for Physician and mid-level practitioners credentialed by the Hospital.

    7. Participates in the development and implementation of long and short range planning for the Hospital.

    8. In collaboration with the Chief of Staff and the UCVH Leadership Team, designs and recommends policies and procedures to the professional staff and board and/or its committees, as appropriate for provider directed clinical activities including charting, scheduling, patient flow, provider productivity and clinical outcomes/evidence-based medicine. Implements policies and procedures within defined time limits and report progress on an ongoing basis. 38% 37% 25%

    9. Orients new Physicians and mid-level practitioners appointed to and/or employed by the Hospital or its clinical affiliates when applicable.

    10. Participates in Physician and mid-level recruitment efforts.

    11. Represents UCVH as the CMO at North Country Healthcare and QHR/NEAH meetings and other UCVH affiliations.

    12. Time permitting, actively participates on UCVH committees including the Leadership Team as requested and as appropriate and with the option of call-in or video conferencing.

    13. Collaborates with the Chief of Staff, the Professional Staffs elected representative.

    14. Assumes the lead role and Chairman of Credentialing Committee.

    15. Enforces the medical staff bylaws and rules and regulations and policy, implementing sanctions where indicated and promoting compliance with the procedural safeguards where corrective action has been requested or initiated.

    16. Other duties as assigned
