    Description:
    The Department of Visual Arts & Music at Columbia College invites applications for a full-time, Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Instructor (non-tenure track) in Music beginning in the Fall 2024 semester. We are looking for a candidate with a wide-ranging background and expertise in musicology.
     
    Teaching, professional development, and service are all required aspects of the position. Customarily a 4-4 teaching load; courses could include Music History, World Music, Music of the U.S., general music courses. The ability to teach Music Theory and Aural Skills is preferable. Various other music courses could be available depending on the candidate’s credentials, including applied lessons. The opportunity to contribute to growing the music program exists with this position. The ideal candidate will also have experience engaging in service to an institution of higher education. Funding for conference attendance and other professional development activities is provided on an annual basis. Faculty also hold important service roles at Columbia College--in admission and recruiting events, academic advising, curriculum development, academic assessment, and collaboration across instructional venues.  They participate in the Faculty Association and its committees, and support co-curricular activities, and College events (may require occasional afternoon, evening and/or weekend commitments).

    Qualifications:
    A PhD in Music or closely related degree would qualify the candidate for a tenure-track position, rank based on experience. A Masters in Music is required if the candidate does not possess the PhD as indicated above (Instructor, non-tenure track). A terminal degree in the field is preferred. Prior higher education teaching experience and a record of professional activities is expected. The position requires an ability to develop and effectively teach undergraduate courses, a commitment to student-centered learning, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a willingness to use various instructional technologies.
