    Mount St. Joseph University is accepting applications for a full-time faculty position to join the Department of Nursing faculty team beginning May 2024. The nursing program at Mount St. Joseph has nearly 100 years of providing high-quality nursing education to the local and regional communities of southwestern Ohio. The Mount has a rich tradition of educating caring, competent, and compassionate nurses.

    The Department of Nursing at Mount St. Joseph University offers programs at the bachelor, master, and doctoral levels. The University seeks individuals with experience teaching traditional and adult nursing students and can teach across programs. University courses are offered in face-to-face and blended/online learning formats using the Blackboard Learning Management System.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The general responsibilities of all teaching faculty are described in the University of Mount St. Joseph EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK, which is available on the website.

    The specific responsibilities of all teaching faculty in the Department of Nursing include:

    A. THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING FOUNDATIONAL FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Supports the Mission of the University and the Mission, Philosophy, and Strategic Plan of the Department of Nursing;
    2. Participates in regular, special, and standing committees and other activities of the Department of Nursing and School of Health Sciences;
    3. Contributes to the development, evaluation, and revision of the nursing curricula utilizing the Organizing Framework for Effective Learning, the Overall and Specific Program Outcomes, the curriculum plan, and each faculty member's experience and specialization in nursing;
    4. Participates in identifying and ordering appropriate library and other media materials pertinent to the curriculum;
    5. Contributes to the development and revision of departmental and student policies in relation to administration, admission, retention, evaluation, progression, and graduation.
    6. Assists in the development and evaluation of the Department's Strategic Plan, including budget planning and quality improvement initiatives;
    7. Acts in accord with the Department's professional and ethical standards as developed and enunciated by the Faculty body;
    8. Accepts leadership responsibilities within the Department;
    9. Represents the Department of Nursing at the Department, University, and external community levels;
    10. Participates in the recruitment of qualified faculty and students;
    11. Supervises the activities of teaching assistants, as appropriate.

    B. THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING FACULTY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Within the classroom setting:

    a. Is academically prepared for the areas in which they teach. Academic preparation of faculty includes degree specialization, specialty coursework, or other preparation sufficient to address the major concepts included in courses they teach;

    b. Selects, plans, organizes, and implements learning experiences in assigned courses, which assist students in meeting course and program outcomes;

    c. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of the subject matter;

    d. Demonstrates an ability to integrate related content areas;

    e. Uses creativity in developing an interactive learning environment;

    f. Evaluates students based on course outcomes, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates developing strategies for improving and mastering the subject area.

    2. Within the clinical setting

    a. Is academically prepared for the areas in which they teach. Academic preparation of faculty includes degree specialization, specialty coursework, or other preparation sufficient to address the major concepts included in courses they teach;

    b. Is experienced in the clinical area of the course and maintains clinical expertise through clinical practice or other avenues;

    c. Facilitates integration of theory and evidence-based practice;

    d. Makes assignments relevant to course outcomes and student's learning needs;

    e. Identifies and evaluates agencies used for clinical laboratory experiences;

    f. Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with consumers, clinical agencies, and personnel;

    g. Communicates goals for students' clinical practice according to specified criteria;

    h. Evaluates students based on course outcomes, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates the development of strategies for improvement and mastery of clinical skills.

    C. THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING FACULTY ACADEMIC ADVISING RESPONSIBILITIES:

      1. Interprets University, School, Department and Program policies for students;
      2. Facilitates clarification and/or validation of course requirements, Program, School, University, and agency policies when communicating with students;
      3. Posts regularly scheduled times for student conferences and advising sessions;
      4. Maintains professional boundaries and sets limits with students;
      5. Makes appropriate referrals and assists students to seek professional counseling and remedial opportunities when necessary.

    Qualifications


    The ideal candidates will have the following:

    • A doctoral degree in nursing or a related field (DNP, PhD, or EdD strongly preferred); MSN is required.
    • A minimum of two years of clinical experience as a registered nurse.
    • Eligibility for/or possessing an active, unencumbered Ohio Registered Nurse license.
    • Proven expertise and leadership in nursing (critical care and medical-surgical nursing experience preferred).
    • Previous college/university teaching experience at both the undergraduate/graduate level (preferred).
    • Experience with online/face-to-face/hybrid/blended learning (preferred).

    Academic rank and salary are commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.
