    The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching world regional geography, physical geography, and physical geography lab. Possible additional offerings depend on the expertise and preference of the successful candidate and could include courses in meteorology and/or geographic information systems.

    Assignments may include evening hours and teaching at any of the Sequoias Community College District campuses:  Visalia, Hanford and/or Tulare.  Participation in the governance of the Sequoias Community College District by way of committee assignments is encouraged.

    Other responsibilities include maintenance of office hours, participation in department and/or division responsibilities, and the willingness to create and participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity, which is respectful of diversity Districtwide.

    The candidate must meet the following criteria.  

    • Master’s in geography 

    OR

    • Bachelor’s in geography AND Master’s in geology, history, meteorology, or oceanography

    OR 

    • The equivalent    

    AND

    • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students which pursuant to Title 5 §53022 is a core system competency and job requirement.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

    The Science Division / Geography Department is looking for evidence of the following:

    • Experience teaching a wide variety of both human and physical geography courses at the post-secondary level
    • Ability and experience in developing lecture and laboratory activities, course syllabi, and instructional materials that support student success
    • Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes
    • Familiarity with the educational needs of a diverse student population
    • Successful experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion 
    • Ability to incorporate student learning outcome objectives within courses and programs and willingness to use and develop stated objectives and measures
    • Graduate and/or undergraduate coursework related to teaching
    • Proven experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to contribute to the development and enhancement of curriculum, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of educational objectives, assessment strategies, and innovative instructional methodologies
    • Enthusiastic participation in professional responsibilities, community and/or campus service
    • Community college teaching experience
