The Program Director provides leadership and general supervision for the implementation of the curriculum and for promoting a functional teaching environment for the faculty. The position is congruent with a 75% administrative and 25% teaching function. This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal or grant or restricted funding. Responsibilities: Provides leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the strategic plan for research and scholarship within the CON. Collaborates with Office of Research and Innovation to support the University’s research goals. Stimulates and leads the development of activities that support and sustain a culture of research and scholarship within the CON. Develops strategies to support identified faculty needs for grantsmanship, data analysis, statistical consultation, and editorial assistance. Fosters collaborative research initiatives within the CON as well as facilitates interdisciplinary and inter-professional research. Collaborates with other CON academic administrators, and faculty facilitates and provides mentorship for the development of a program of research and scholarship for both tenure-track, tenured and non-tenure track faculty. Promotes faculty development that includes formal academic study and activities that enhance faculty promotion and tenure. Collaborates with respective faculty supervisors to provide input on evaluation of research and scholarship outcomes as part of the annual faculty evaluation process. Monitors the research and scholarly productivity of faculty and students including intramural and extramural funding accomplishments; prepares reports as needed. Develops mechanisms for identifying research funding resources and systems to support grant applications. Monitors and advises the Dean and other faculty on national research trends and implications for the CON. Provides oversight and monitors of pre- and post- grant award compliance. Provides consultation to faculty and students on research and grant proposal preparation and start-up packages Collaborates with faculty, provides oversight in the preparation and approves substantive and budgetary content of proposals submitted for intramural and extramural funding. Serves as liaison and resource to CON clinical partners. Collaborates with CON and University personnel in publicizing and disseminating the accomplishments of faculty, professional staff, students, and alumni. Works with the CON Search committee in the recruitment of tenure-track faculty. Provides service to the CON, PVAMU committees and professional organizations. Ability to teach in graduate program as related to area of expertise and serves on doctoral student committees as appropriate. Maintains competency as researcher, educator and administrator and engages in an active program of research. Collaborates with the Dean, coordinates and manages financial, material, and human resources for the Office of Nursing Research. Provides guidance in the development of and management of centers of nursing research within the CON. Serves as a member of the CON Leadership Team. Oversees and manages the duties/responsibilities of the Research Associate and any student workers assigned to the Office of Nursing Research. Assumes other responsibilities as directed by the Dean Required Education & Experience: Eligible for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Texas Earned research doctorate in nursing. Must be eligible for a tenured appointment at the associate or full professor academic rank. Evidence of sustained scholarly productivity including extramurally funded research, refereed publications, and scholarly presentations in a focused area of scholarship. Record of progressive leadership and development within a health-related academic and/or research environment. Administrative experience in directing activities and evaluating job performance. Minimum of 7-10 years of teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher. Demonstrated knowledge and skills in program development, curriculum development and evaluation. Service and leadership in nursing and health-related organizations and associations. Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Demonstrates leadership competencies. Demonstrates ability to collaborate and lead transdisciplinary and inter-professional groups. Manifests qualities of integrity, professional character, sincerity, honesty, emotional stability, creativity, and discriminating judgment.
