  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Provide instruction and monitor teaching/learning effectiveness in courses assigned by the Department Chairperson, with the approval of the Dean of Arts & Sciences and the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.
     
    Physical Presence on Campus
    The position requires office hours and physical presence on campus.  Employee must reside in the Laredo area or be able to commute to campus daily.
     
    Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
    1. Develop, evaluate, and revise programs, courses, and objectives to ensure instructional and programmatic responsiveness to the occupational and academic needs of students and to ensure instructional quality as demonstrated by students' achievement of competency-based objectives.
    2. Prepare and, on the first day of class, distribute syllabi, which inform students about course requirements, grading requirements, testing assignments, absence policy, and other pertinent information for each course assigned.
    3. Prepare, administer, and grade assignments and examinations in a timely manner to inform students about their progress and to provide opportunities, which will allow students to succeed. Use multiple measures of assessment. Include opportunities for research and outside assignments.
    4. Encourage use of support services by students. Collaborate with support services staff to ensure that appropriate information is shared and discussed.
    5. Provide appropriate information to Library staff regarding desired discipline materials.
    6.  Follow the academic calendar and other policies and procedures adopted by the Board of Trustees.
    7.  Serve as peer mentor when requested.
    8. Participate a minimum of forty hours on campus assigned duties, including an average of three posted office hours for the Learning Center for consultation with students.
    9. Stay current of changes that occur in discipline. Participate in department initiatives to infuse changes into curriculum. Participate in interdisciplinary discussions, which are directed at improving student learning and evaluating core competencies curriculum.
    10. Sponsor or provide assistance with student clubs and organizations.
    11. Distribute student evaluation forms on a timely basis.
    12. Provide a safe environment for students and be responsible for the security of assigned equipment, materials, and classrooms.
    13. Promote the College's programs and curricula.
    14. Follow procedures related to the registration Office, including grade reports and deadlines; attendance record reports; withdrawal deadlines; class changes; and time and room scheduling.
    15. Participate in the preparation and updating of class schedules and the Catalog.
    16. Follow proper procedures for requesting textbooks, instructional supplies, and expendable supplies; submit travel and absence reports in a timely manner.
    17. Participate in Southern Association accreditation activities; implement Institutional Effectiveness Plan related to academic area.
    18. Participate in college and departmental committees and activities. Substitute for colleagues as appropriate.
    19. Prepare professional development plan in consultation with the department chair; review plan on an on-going basis with the department chair; work with assigned peer/mentor.
    20. Participate in faculty evaluations as described by the department chair and/or the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
    21. Participate in meetings called by the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, Dean of Arts & Sciences, or department chair for the purpose of disseminating information, providing input into the decision making process, and sharing expertise with colleagues.
    22. Participate as a faculty advisory during the registration process and during the semester by providing accurate academic counseling and guidance at time assigned by the department chair or Dean of Arts & Sciences 
    23. Respond to requests for information from the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
         24.Participate in college activities, which include but are not limited to orientation, convocation, in-service, graduation, and workshops designed for growth and        developmentNOTICE:  Required Documents

    Required:
    • Master’s degree in Philosophy or Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Philosophy. 
    • Graduate coursework hours must be aligned with course learning outcomes that instructor will be teaching.
    • Some experience in teaching, preferably at the junior and/or senior college level.



    Be knowledgeable, mature, and concerned with the academic progress of students.  
    Be cooperative and professional in dealing with college administrators, colleagues, and students.
    Ability to provide service to a diverse population, to operate specialized equipment, audio-visual aids, and to develop lecture strategies to enhance teaching effectiveness. Supervision Exercised
