Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Asst. Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and contributes to research In a specialized field. POSITION GOAL
- Demonstrate and promote a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- The goals of this faculty position are to teach undergraduate level courses in Philosophy and related courses; to share with other faculty members the common responsibilities for the governance of the College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Ability to work directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Teach a normal load of 15 contact hours per semester / 30 contact hours per academic year starting no earlier than August 25 and ending no later than June 25.
- Ability to teach at both the Blackwood and Camden City campuses.
- Ability or willingness to teach in a variety of modalities including online, hybrid, and H.A.R.T.
- When conducting classes:
- Conduct classes as scheduled by program director and dean.
- Process and post grades as scheduled in the academic year.
- Prepare master schedule of all Philosophy classes including meeting times, days of the week, location, duration, and instructors.
- Start class on time and conduct class for the fully scheduled time period.
- Provide students with a written statement of course requirements and expectations that shall include the attendance and grading policy, course objectives, and a course outline.
- Retain all credit course documentation for a period of not less than three (3) years upon the completion of the course.
- Observe the approved Departmental Master Syllabi.
- Maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week for consultation with students.
- Adhere to the “Professional Code of Ethics” subscribed to between the Board of Trustees and the Faculty Association.
- Participate in academic advisement as scheduled.
- Participate in the academic program review of the curriculum as scheduled.
- Participate in the Mentoring Program for Non-Tenured Faculty Members and the Partners in Learning Program for Tenured Faculty Members.
- Attend all the monthly department and division meetings.
- Attend meetings of the Faculty Assembly; attend College committee meetings as appointed.
- Attend all orientation functions and commencement activities as required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in Philosophy; doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of three years community college teaching experience preferred.
- Training and/or experience in teaching on-line college level courses preferred.
- Experience in coordinating an Honors program and/or teaching Honors courses preferred.
