      About the Position
      JOB SUMMARY: Provides injury prevention, care, and rehabilitation for student athletes; assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the implementation of a comprehensive athletic training instruction program for District athletic coaches; provides First Aid and CPR instruction; assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the coordination of a student athletic trainer program.

      Essential Functions and Responsibilities
      1. Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the development and implementation of the Athletic Training Coaches Education Program for District coaches.
      2. Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the coordination of the Student Athletic Trainer Program; identifies eligibility requirements and appropriate athletic training activities for students participating in the Program; provides instruction to student athletic trainers on First Aid techniques, protective taping, wraps and dressings, and the use of therapeutic modalities; coordinates with District coaches on the supervision of student athletic trainers.
      3. Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in coordinating with Building Athletic Coordinators and District coaches to establish and implement an athletic training program of injury prevention, conditioning, and emergency treatment procedures.
      4. Provides athletic trainer services, as scheduled by the Head Athletic Trainer, to District high schools, middle schools, K-8 schools, and the District stadium site, including special and weekend events.
      5. Practices prevention of athletic injuries through application of protective taping, wraps, and braces to student athletes.
      6. Makes recommendations to the Head Athletic Trainer for safety improvements to athletic facilities and equipment; assists District coaches with the evaluation, proper fit, and inventory of safety equipment.
      7. Assists the Building Athletic Coordinators in the maintenance and distribution of Athletic Training kits to in-season coaches.
      8. Evaluates athletic injuries and performs appropriate first aid; ensures proper preventative and safety measures are taken before transportation of injuring athletes for treatment by appropriate conveyance.
      9. Makes recommendations to parents regarding medical care related to student athlete injuries, illnesses, or conditions.
      10. Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in maintaining accurate, current, and complete records of accidents, injuries, and treatments involving District athletes and athletes or spectators injured on District property.
      11. Provides follow up treatment and rehabilitation of injured athletes, under the direction of the treating physician, using approved treatment modalities such as whirlpools, guards, electrical stimulation, braces, ultrasound, and splints.
      12. As directed by the Head Athletic Trainer, ensures the efficient organization of training equipment and supplies, and the orderliness, security, and cleanliness of assigned District training rooms.
      13. Assists the Head Athletic Trainer in the assessment of the District's athletic training equipment and supplies needs; inventories training equipment and supplies as directed; makes recommendations for upgrades to training room equipment.
      14. Attends coaches and Building Athletic Coordinator meetings as directed.
      15. Provides assistance to the District's Athletic Department on event management as necessary.
      16. Performs other related duties as required.

      Required Qualifications
      B.A. degree in athletic training, education, or related field. National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) status with successful completion of each of the five practice domains; current State of Washington Athletic Training License; valid First Aid/CPR Trainer certification.

      Preferred Qualifications
      Experience in high school or collegiate athletic training environments.

      Working Conditions
      Regular attendance at designated athletic practices and sporting events. Position works outdoors in all weather conditions. Possible exposure to blood and other body fluids that may contain hazardous or infectious agents. Exposure to loud noises in a gymnasium setting.

      Physical Demands
      Ability to lift and carry 10-50 pound weights and training equipment. Frequently walks, sits, stoops; occasionally kneels. Uses hands and arms to reach, handle, and feel during patient evaluation, treatment, and documentation. Ability to stabilize injured athletes and assist with lifting.

      Salary: $38.34 per hour
      • Work Year: 180 days a year
      • Start Date: 9/1/2023 /Non- Continuing (Leave replacement position through 8/31/2024)
      • Shift details: 5.2 hours a day
