Position: Athletic Trainer
Reports to: Athletic Director
Term of Employment: 12 months
Summary: Under the direction of the Athletic Director, provides assistance to the Athletic Department by serving as Athletic Trainer for school athletes and sports teams and /First Responder specifically for Football and Wrestling Teams.
Required Education and Training:
High School Diploma / GED.
Previous experience in community or group sports, and working with youth.
Must have completed and maintained certification in CPR and First Aid as certified by an organization such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
Must have completed and continue to maintain training in Concussion Management as offered by an organization such as the National Federation of State High School Association. (NFHS)
Have completed and continue to maintain continuing education in Injury Prevention as offered by an organization such as NFHS.
Complete 10 hours total of staff development each school year specific to First Aid and Injury Recognition and Prevention.
Additional Requirements: Must be organized, highly motivated and capable of managing priorities. Must be comfortable with evening hours and team travel. Must pass background check.
Responsibilities of the Job include:
Prepare and deliver supplies, equipment, water, and injury prevention support / taping for athletes prior to practices and games.
Attend all practices and games for High School Football and Wrestling teams.
Maintain list of special conditions among athletes in case of emergency, along with emergency contacts for each student athlete.
Survey practice facility / field for dangerous objects/ repairs needed. Notify Maintenance or appropriate personnel.
Communicate practice status of athletes to coaching staff daily. Observe injured athletes during practices and respond to any injury situations
Travel to cover games as directed by AD.
Communicate well verbally and via email with AD, Coaches, and Physicians.
Apply various therapeutic modalities, and give instruction for range of motion and flexibility exercises.
Apply necessary protection of the injured area, including special taping or braces.
Clean and dress various abrasions, lacerations, etc. to help prevent infection and to aid the healing process.
Evaluate new injuries after practice is completed
Supervise student athletic trainer volunteers
Valid driver’s license required
Physical Requirements include, but may not be limited to:
Walking, bending, standing, kneeling, stretching, lifting, sitting, reaching, grasping, bending, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting, stooping, and twisting
Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
Ability to operate office, multimedia, and computer equipment
Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
Ability to work independently with little direction and meet deadlines
