Being an Attorney researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk. Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents. Additionally, Attorney represents the organization in litigation, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required. May have a billable hours requirement. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to a manager. The Attorney work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. Position Summary:
The role of the Staff Attorney is to provide legal services including representation to University of Iowa students in a general practice setting with emphasis on tenants’ rights and criminal defense. This role will provide educational programming to students on relevant legal issues and facilitate internship experience for law students. The Staff Attorney will assist the Director with administrative tasks including assessment and budgeting.
