Provides legal advice and counsel in support of business activities and transactions. Being an Attorney researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk. Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents. Additionally, Attorney represents the organization in litigation, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required. May have a billable hours requirement. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to a manager. The Attorney work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     City Attorney, Range 54, $130,474.27/annual

    Open until filled.

    The City of Deming is seeking qualified applicants to serve as in-house counsel.

    Requirements of the Position: The City Attorney will work cooperatively and directly with the

    City Manager to provide advice ensuring that federal, state, and local laws are followed when

    conducting city business.

    Applicant shall possess:

    • Valid State of NM Driver’s License and clean driving record.
    • Must be licensed by the New Mexico State Bar to practice law in the State of New Mexico and
    in good standing. A Juris Doctor from an accredited College or University.
    • Knowledge of applicable federal laws, rules and regulations, state statutes and become
    familiarized with city ordinances.
    • Knowledge of labor relations, civil litigation, collective bargaining and municipal, state,
    federal and constitutional law affecting city government.
    • Ability to effectively work with, advise, and inform city officials, and governmental body.
