Attorney is responsible for using specialized knowledge of national, state, and/or local laws to advise and represent clients and organizations in criminal or civil proceedings and other legal matters. Provides legal advice and counsel in support of business activities and transactions. Being an Attorney researches and interprets existing laws and regulations and anticipated changes to laws to guide informed decisions and reduce risk. Prepares and reviews various agreements, contracts, and other legal documents. Additionally, Attorney represents the organization in litigation, negotiations, and other matters where legal counsel is required. May have a billable hours requirement. Requires a JD. Requires State Bar membership. Typically reports to a manager. The Attorney work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     Public Protection Section (Special Victims Unit) - Springfield

    The Missouri Attorney General's Office is actively seeking an attorney with excellent credentials to serve as an Assistant Attorney General/Special Victims Unit Leader position in the Public Protection Section.

    The Public Protection Section is involved in a wide range of criminal prosecutions at the investigation and trial level throughout Missouri. Our prosecutors are appointed to assist in serious or complex prosecutions at the request of a local prosecutor and by direction of the Governor or are appointed as special prosecutors by a court when local prosecutors have a conflict of interest. The Special Victims Unit involves prosecuting child physical and sexual abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assaults. The Unit Leader's duties include supervising attorneys on SVU cases, reviewing SVU plea offers, jury trial practice, and developing and providing training for the section.

    This position will involve intermittent travel within Missouri for meetings, trials, or court appearances.

    Preferred experience/skills:

    • 3 years or more experience in prosecution
    • Jury trial experience
    • Experience with the unique legal and factual issues in SVU cases
    • Excellent legal writing, oral advocacy, and litigation strategy skills

    Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Missouri. Candidates with relevant experience and education will be considered for an interview.

    Salary is $95,000.
