Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Itinerant Educational Audiologist - Part-time

  • Description

    Clarke is seeking an itinerant part time educational audiologist. The part time (10 to 14 hours per week) audiologist will provide services to deaf and hard of hearing itinerant students in mainstream school settings in eastern Massachusetts.

    • Assess and make recommendations regarding classroom acoustics.
    • Assess, monitor, troubleshoot and oversee the use and functioning of classroom and personal amplification systems and provide support to staff and parents regarding auditory access and the development of auditory skills.
    • Perform functional and electroacoustic verification of personal Hearing Assistive Technology.
    • Provide instruction and assessment according to students’ individual needs, serve as a liaison to staff to provide acoustic and auditory accommodations and the Least Restrictive environment for special education students.
    • Serve as a member of IEP and 504 teams to assess, develop and implement appropriate IEP’s and 504 plans for identified students.
    • Collaborate with staff and assist in training students and staff in proper use and care of equipment and to advocate for themselves with regard to their needs related to hearing loss.
    • Provide in-service training/consultation to school personnel, parents and students regarding hearing, hearing aids or cochlear implants and assistive hearing technology in the educational setting.


    Requirements

    • Master's or Doctoral Degree in Audiology or equivalent.
    • Massachusetts license to practice Audiology.
    • ASHA or AAA Certification in Audiology.
    • At least one year successful experience as an audiologist (experience as Educational Audiologist preferred).
    • Knowledge of habilitative/rehabilitative services with children with hearing aids and cochlear implants.
    • Minor in Education of deaf and Hard of Hearing Children, Speech Pathology or early Childhood Education (preferred).
    • Evidence of good interpersonal skills with adults and children.
    • Independent and reliable means of transportation.
    • Must hold a valid drivers license.
