Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Summary

    The Audiologist is responsible for supporting and diagnosing patients who experience ear-related problems. The Audiologist's responsibilities include, but are not limited to: treating patients who are physically and developmentally impaired with hearing, balance, or related problems, consulting with other medical staff to determine the appropriate treatments and performing related tests on patients.

    Responsibilities

    • Examine patients with ear, hearing or balance and other related problems. 
    • Using appropriate technologies and techniques to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment services to outpatients suspected of, at risk for, or with known hearing handicaps. 
    • Conduct comprehensive audiological evaluations, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, and immittance testing. 
    • Determine the type, degree, symmetry, stability, and configuration of hearing loss. 
    • Conduct balance evaluations, including videonystagmography (VNG) and calorics. 
    • Develop individualized treatment plans for patients, including hearing aid recommendations, assistive listening devices, and communication strategies. 
    • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as otolaryngologists and speech-language pathologists, to ensure comprehensive patient care. 
    • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and documentation. 
    • Provide counseling and education to patients and their families on hearing loss, prevention, and management. 
    • Monitors patient progress and provides reevaluations as needed. 
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Required 

    • Doctoral Degree in Audiology. 
    • Current Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology from the American Speech Language Hearing Association. 
    • Licensed as an Audiologist by the State of Nevada 
    • Strong knowledge of audiological testing procedures and equipment. 
    • Proficient in using audiology software and electronic medical records systems.
