Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     The Audiology Clinic is located at Hilo Medical Center in our Outpatient Rehab Department. The East Hawaii Region (EHR) of Hawaii Health Systems Corporation includes Hilo Medical Center, Ka’u Hospital, Hale Ho’ola Hamakua, Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home and the network of primary and specialty clinics within the East Hawaii Health Clinics.     The Big Island of Hawai'i offers amazing rainforests, waterfalls and beaches. The hospital staff is community-oriented and strive to provide competent and compassionate care to every patient that enters our doors. It is home to the Hawaii Community College, University of Hawaii, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, excellent schools and convenient shopping.

    SUMMARY:

    The Audiologist will be primarily responsible for: 

    • Diagnostic hearing evaluations for children & adults
    • Otoscopy
    • Tympanometry and acoustic reflexes
    • Otoacoustic emissions
    • Air, bone and speech audiometry
    • Identify hearing loss caused by otitis media, noise induced, normal aging process, hereditary factors
    • Tinnitus management/counseling
    • Determine hearing aid and cochlear implant candidacy
    • Newborn hearing evaluations
    • Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) Testing
    • Hearing Conservation
    • Vestibular Evaluations preferred
    • Cerumen Management preferred

    This position is full-time and comes with a great benefits package including medical, dental and vision coverage for you and your dependents, 20 days PTO, 14 State of Hawaii holidays and 5 days CME.

    EDUCATION:

    Doctor of Audiology Degree Preferred, or Masters of Science in Audiology

    LICENSURE:
    Unrestricted license to practice Audiology in the State of Hawaii

    Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology Preferred.
