Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     • Provides standard audiometric battery of tests including air conduction, bone conduction, speech reception threshold, and speech discrimination tests.
    • Provides electrophysiologic testing.
    • Provides rehabilitative care including counseling, and hearing aid evaluation, orientation, and training.
    • Provides consultation and testing for the infant screening program.
    • Provides services in aural rehabilitation (i.e., cochlear implants, osseointegrated hearing aids, etc.).
    • Provides tinnitus and central auditory processing evaluation and counseling.
    • Records procedures and results in patient records; records charges; corresponds with others regarding patients as appropriate.
    • Oversees clinical work of Audiology Technicians.
    • May supervise graduate students.
    • Consults with other departments andmakes referrals as appropriate.
    • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Manager and performs minor equipment repairs.
    • Provides in-service training by planning, organizing and participating in community education activities.
