Audiologist administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech reception and discrimination tests, to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Being an Audiologist may require Doctor of Audiology (Au. D.) in some states. Additionally, Audiologist requires a master's degree of Audiology. Typically reports to a supervisor/manager. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A). Requires applicable state license. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Provides full range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiologic services to patient population ranging from neonatal and pediatric to geriatric in age. Participates in teaching and research projects as well as program development.

    Qualifications

    • Master's degree in Audiology required.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.

    Responsibilities

  • Determines the need for, select types, program, fit and dispense appropriate amplification systems. Counsels on advantages and limitations of hearing aids, and instructs in their care and use. Troubleshoots and completes minor in-house repairs. Advises, recommends, and dispenses assistive listening device systems.
  • Obtains case history and administers diagnostic tests to determine the nature and degree of hearing loss, site of lesion, need for further diagnostic work-up, and necessity and/or feasibility of amplification. Counsels patients on nature of hearing loss, communicative problems and planning for follow-up care. Interprets test results and dictates or writes reports for medical records and referral resources. Makes referrals for further diagnostic evaluation.
  • Prepares and delivers lectures and demonstrations to the lay community, fellow audiologists, or other members of the medical community.
  • Participates in the planning, evaluation, and implementation of new programs.
  • Maintains and calibrates equipment, orders supplies, and assists in record keeping activities.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.
  • Required Licensure/Certifications

    • Current NH Audiology license required.
