Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

    The Audiologist is responsible for diagnostic testing of patients to include: hearing tests, tympanometry, acoustic reflexes, otoacoustic emissions, auditory brainstem response testing, electrocochleography, and electronystagmography testing. The audiologist must provide written reports as needed for diagnostic testing. The audiologist is responsible for fitting of hearing aids and maintaining all associated reports and paperwork.


    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Good written and verbal communication skills; ability to write reports for physicians on all diagnostic tests.
    • Provide diagnostic audiologic testing for patients of all ages.
    • Provide electrophysiologic testing, including otoacoustic emissions (OAEs), auditory brainstem response testing (ABR), and electrocochleography.
    • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
    • Provide Vestibular testing using Electronystagmography (ENG).
    • Provide Vestibular assessment and treatment using the Dix-Hallpike and Canalith repositioning.
    • Perform hearing aid evaluations, fittings, and follow-ups for patients of all ages.
    • Use of Verifit real ear measurement system.
    • Perform hearing aid checks and repairs.
    • Perform auditory brainstem response testing in the operating room.
    • Assist with marketing activities.
    • Maintain hearing aid patient files and paperwork.
    • Assist with audiologic rehabilitation classes.
    • Attends department and company staff meetings.


    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Requires a minimum of a Master’s degree, and AuD or PhD is acceptable.
    • Virginia state licensure in Audiology and a Virginia state license for Hearing Aid Specialists are required; CCC-A or board certified is preferred.
    • Must have completed CFY or 4th year externship.
    • Knowledge of HIPAA and OSHA regulations.

    • Combination of office and exam/procedure room settings.
    • Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.
    • Some exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a medical office setting.


    PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

    • Requires sitting and standing for extensive periods of time.
    • Must be able to view a computer screen and audiologic equipment for an extended period.
