Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Detailed Job Description
    The 25 contact hours will encompass the following:
    • Administer audiometric assessments to all members of the RIT community.
    • Recommend and program hearing aids, FM fittings, direct audio input and administer hearing aid evaluations for all members of the RIT community.
    • Recommend and map cochlear implants for all members of the RIT community.
    • Provide aural rehabilitation by administering diagnostic evaluations, planning and implementing intervention plans and report writing for all members of the RIT community.
    • Provide on-call services in the hearing aid shop, which include but are not limited to, hearing aid and cochlear implant troubleshooting, earmolds, sales, telephone inquiries, and appointment scheduling.
    • Collect data from pre and post therapy evaluations for aural rehabilitation evaluations, intervention plans, summary reports, and aural rehabilitation outcomes.
    • Collaborate with speech-language professionals and other audiologists to enhance hearing aid and cochlear implant services for students.
    • Participate in Communication Studies and Services department, and Audiology discipline committees as needed.
    • Participate in professional and communication development activities and expand role as skill and leadership growth permits.
    • Participate in Communication Workshops provided during the Summer Vestibule Program (SVP).
    • Enhance American Sign Language Skills, Spoken Communication Strategies, and knowledge of Deaf Culture through attendance at lectures and workshops.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Experience/Education:
    • Communication Studies and Services recruits and hires Audiologists at different levels of experience and skill. Placement within CSSs organizational plan/career path will be determined by experience, and skill proficiency level
    • Masters Degree in Audiology with experience or Doctoral degree (AuD or PhD) - current national standard
    • ASHA (American Speech-Language Hearing Association), Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) is required to practice as an audiologist (national standard) or eligible/in progress.
    • An Audiology license is required to practice in New York State or eligible/in progress.
    • A Hearing Aid Dispensing license is required to practice in New York State or eligible/in progress.
    • Knowledge of ASL and Deaf Culture or willingness to learn
    • Ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the colleges continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences.
