Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     QUALIFICATIONS SUMMARY
    MINIMUM EDUCATION
    • Doctoral degree in audiology (AuD or PhD)
    • The certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) of the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and/or board certification in audiology from the American Board of Audiology (ABA)

    QUALIFICATIONS
    • Minimum 24 months of experience in audiology
    • A current unrestricted state license
    • Completion of 5.5-week Officer Training School course
    • Must be between the ages of 18 and 42
