Summary
Exercises leadership responsibility over general accounting, budgeting, reimbursements, contracts, payroll, accounts payable, and financial analysis. Oversees the preparation of accurate, timely and detailed financial statements, budgets, costing, statistical adhoc reporting, cash flow projections and financial trends. Responsible for the analytical needs of the health system as it relates to the financial and operational wellbeing of the organization. Responsible for all financial operations of the health system and all related entities. Carries out the functions that support the mission and vision of the health system.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the overall activities and processes of the finance department.
- Exercises broad supervision of unrestricted and restricted fiscal activity to ensure sufficient fiscal controls to safeguard the health system’s funds while allowing the health system to accomplish its programmatic missions.
- Directs in the preparation of financial statements, annual financial reports, audit activities, and other information reports and requests, ensuring accuracy and integrity of reporting; leads the team in the interpretation of financial data of the health system and its related entities.
- Direct in the preparation of understandable monthly financial reporting to all levels of leadership that ensures they have the tools to manage the respective areas effectively.
- Oversees the development of the annual operating and capital budgets for the health system and related entities.
- Monitors the health system and related entities budgets during the fiscal year to include monthly reporting of actuals to budget, with recommendations for programmatic and fiscal changes based on these reports.
- Assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of a robust productivity system, providing training to executives and department leadership in the effective use of this information. Champions business thinking to ensure management develops appropriate mindset in the use of labor resources.
- Oversees the analytical needs of the health system as it navigates the challenging financial and operational environment.
- Assists in the development of long-range financial planning for the system and produce related return on investment requests
- Monitors current state and federal accounting regulations, policies, directives, current accounting practices, and external fiscal trends, which favorably or adversely affects the health system; implements internal policy and/or process changes as appropriate.
- Provides leadership in the design, development, and management of financial management systems that support the fiscal and operational functions of the health system.
- Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the health system’s goals and objectives; oversees the recruitment, employment, training, and supervision of staff. Evaluates department staffing needs in the ever changing environment of healthcare
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of five (5) years in healthcare finance experience with a minimum of five (5) years management experience.
- Knowledge and understanding of advanced financial/management accounting principles, methods, and practices
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
- Understanding of healthcare regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to ensure the maintenance of a productive relationship with staff and management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to effectively organize resources and establish priorities.
- Ability to review and assess the operational and financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and/or projections.
- Knowledge of organizational structure, workflow, and operational procedures.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends in state and federal accounting regulations, and accounting practices and conventions.
- Excellent skills in budget preparation and fiscal management.
- Ability to develop financial plans and manage resources.
