Auditing Project Lead leads a group of auditors who identify risk, assess performance, prepare financial reports in various complex auditing projects. Schedules audit plans and builds audit criteria, ensures all auditing activities in accordance with organization's policies and standards. Being an Auditing Project Lead prepares auditing reports and suggestions to management. Provides oversight and guidance for auditors and may be responsible for training staff. Additionally, Auditing Project Lead ensures standard auditing practices are followed. Requires a bachelor's degree. May sometimes require the Certified Public Accountant (CPA)credential. Typically reports to a director or head of a unit/department. The Auditing Project Lead supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Auditing Project Lead typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.   • Position Purpose

    Provides basic level project administration and analytics support to a project team and/or other Project Specialists, assisting with project planning, project performance analysis and monitoring, project administration, project accounting, updating project funding as needed, monitoring budget status), and ensuring that all project data is current.  Generates accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned projects within the ERP, providing pre-billing information cost estimates, revenue recognition, and invoicing for project manager and/or project specialist review.  Ensures that responsibilities are executed in a timely manner with a level of quality that meets or exceeds all KLJ standards and contractual requirements.

     

    Essential Functions

    • Partner with other Project Specialists and Project Managers to perform project accounting support functions under general supervision related to the collection, recording, and allocation of project costs and revenue; profit and loss calculations, budget vs. actual cost, and assisting with providing project financial performance and profitability to project management.
    • Respond to routine questions regarding the activities described above.
    • Under general supervision, create, set-up, and/or close-out project accounts in the ERP, assisting with reconciling overall project payables and receivables to project budgets.
    • Perform basic project accounting tasks related to project contract revenue, billing events, project variances, billing transaction exceptions, reporting, and updating budgets as needed when contract modifications or budget changes arise.
    • Assist project specialists and project teams in resolving data entry problems; facilitate processing of documents and expenditures.
    • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for generating accurate and precise project-related financial records using the ERP, spreadsheets, and software.
    • Assist with ensuring draft invoices from subcontractors and/or billing are accurate based on the contract requirements; and, under general supervision, obtain Project Manager documentation, approvals, and signatures prior to submitting the invoice to the client.
    • Respond to routine requests for more detail from clients, investigate all project expenses not billed to clients.
    • Attend project-related meetings regarding the current status of project financials, problem projects and following up on any identified actions as discussed.
    • Compile information for review by senior Project Specialists and Project Managers prior to submitting for internal and external approval as required.
    • Remain current in latest project support and project accounting principles, processes, and subject matter.
    • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to KLJ’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
    • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs

     

    Qualifications

    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • At least 5 years business experience, preferably in Accounting, Billing, Accounts Receivable, or Accounts Payable.
    • Basic ability in accounting principles, practices, and methods and their application to project work-related issues.

    • Possess an analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound independent judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions with financial implications to the company.
    • Capable organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail.
    • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
    • Data entry skills and very strong attention to detail.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).
    • Familiarity with accounting and bookkeeping software.
    • Familiarity with Oracle or like ERP preferred (but not required).
    • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
    • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
