The Logan City Fire Department (LCFD) hereby announces a promotional examination for the purpose of establishing a hiring roster of eligible candidates for the position of Captain.
Testing will be held on Monday, March 25, 2024
Qualifications :
Candidates must meet the following qualifications / certifications -
If certified AEMT :
Six years of service with LCFD to be eligible to test.
Eight years of service with LCFD during the two-year life of the test to be eligible to promote.
If certified Paramedic :
Five years of service with LCFD to be eligible to test.
Seven years of service with LCFD during the two-year life of the test to be eligible to promote.
Desirable qualifications and certifications include Haz Mat Technician, Technical Rescue Technician, Paramedic Certification, and Associate or Bachelor's Degree in Fire Science, Management, or related area.
Any equivalent combination of education, knowledge and / or experience may be considered as qualifications for this position.
Tenzinga evaluations may be used to determine job performance history.
COMPENSATION :
All City employees are paid within a salary range based on a statewide market study. Annual merit increases are based upon personal performance and progress on goals established by the employees, immediate supervisor, and Human Resource Department, as funds are appropriated by the Municipal Council.

Monday, March 25, 2024 - Written Exam - Based upon the Officer Development Program. This section of the promotional examination process will be rated to a maximum of 25% of the composite score .
Monday, March 25, 2024 - Practical Exam - Based upon an Incident Command Scenario. This section of the promotional examination process will be rated to a maximum of 30% of the composite score .
Monday, March 25, 2024 - Oral Exam - This section of the promotional examination process will be rated to a maximum of 25% of the composite score .
Applicants will be given additional points based on resume review and prior history. This section of the promotional examination process will be rated to a maximum of 20% of the composite score .
Candidates are responsible to ensure that all information is provided to the City for assessment . Copies of certifications and diplomas are required in order to receive credit.

Responsibilities :
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to :
Coordinating LCFD staff during an assigned shift or for an assigned station under the direction of the Battalion Chief.
Assisting in coordinating and directing fire suppression and / or emergency medical response activities during an emergency per the Incident Command system, LCFD Strategies and Tactics Manual, and LCFD Policy Manual.
Directing fire suppression efforts at the fire scene, in the absence of higher-level command staff to facilitate the efficient, effective, and safe deployment of staff and equipment and ensure that the fire scene is controlled as quickly and effectively as possible.
Participating in personnel actions such as recruitment, discipline, and evaluation of subordinate staff to ensure established standards for operation are met.
Responding to fire, medical, and rescue calls to perform the full range of work and oversee subordinate staff to ensure services are provided safely, efficiently, effectively, and in a timely manner.
Conducting / coordinating day-to-day training, including physical conditioning sessions for employees, and community classes on fire prevention, fire safety, and other fire related topics.
Monitoring maintenance and cleaning activities during assigned shift, and ensuring that tools and equipment are properly maintained and stored.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of LCFD Strategy and Tactics Manual and Standard Operating Procedures.
Knowledge of response plans and mutual aid with other agencies.
Skill in conflict resolution with Department personnel and the community.
