    We're seeking a Billing Manager for Behavioral Health to join our team. In this role you will be responsible for for the operational functioning of the patient accounting and business processes as well as human, financial and physical resources. Responsible for overseeing the development, enhancement, and ongoing education of all direct reports. Successful fulfillment of responsibilities will promote and motivate staff and contribute toward a prompt and accurate attainment of department and Health System objectives.

    This position is open to remote/work from home with strong preference for candidates residing within the UPH geographies of Iowa, Illinois, & Wisconsin.

    Responsibilities
    • Provides leadership to staff to ensure effective, efficient operations, optimizing performance and continually improving quality in a vastly changing health care environment.
    • Responsible for creating a culture of innovation, learning, teamwork and professionalism, consistent with the mission, vision and values of UnityPoint Health.
    • Responsible for overseeing the day-to-day management of the operations, establishment of work schedules, review of staffing needs and the supervision and training of staff.
    • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with staff and the management team to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
    • Participates in establishing and preparing departmental goals, standards, procedures, and instructions, which contribute to the effectiveness of the department in accordance with organizational goals.
    • Participates in the development of Full Time Equivalent (FTE) budgetary expenses, operational expense, and capital budgets. Analyzes available financial data, investigates budget variances and initiates corrective action or justifies non-adherence. Identifies data and trends to be used for future budget planning. Prepares valid rationale and justification for budget request. Applies current cost containment concepts.
    • Establishes productivity standards, monitoring and adjusting to achieve maximum effectiveness of the Central Billing Office in the areas of productivity and customer service. Assures that all job descriptions within the area of responsibility clarify and delineate position expectations. Facilitates orientation, inservice, on-the-job training and continuing education programming to meet identified staff development needs.
    • Performs performance appraisals for staff within the department. Creates an environment for staff growth, development, productivity and satisfaction.
    • Ensures bills are sent out accurately, timely and adhere to compliance guidelines and governmental regulations.
    • Ensures all cash is applied timely and accurately.
    • Remains familiar with all equipment and systems within the area of supervision and is responsible for the maintenance of that equipment.
    • Responsible for complete, accurate statistical data for daily and monthly reports.
    • Facilitates the planning and monitoring of quality improvement activities ensuring any necessary corrective action in the department.
    • Completes special projects and monthly reports as assigned.
    • Serves as computer system support person for staff.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    Minimum of a four year college degree in accounting or financial related field.

    Experience/Knowedge, Skills, Abilities:

    · Four years management experience in hospital or physician office.

    · Strong computer system skills required.

    · Demonstrated knowledge of medical terminology.

    · Demonstrated understanding of hospital billing, follow-up, collections, cash application and related patient accounting processes to assure compliance with regulatory and contractual agreements.

    · Demonstrated understanding of patient registration and billing practices for hospitals.

    · Knowledge of business management, theory and practices relating to financial management and internal controls.

    · Knowledge of managed care and third party reimbursement principles.

    · Evidence of high ethical standards and moral character, a strong work ethic, a high

    energy level, demonstrated creativity, and team playing.

    · A stable work history, a self-esteem necessary to lead and work through conflict

    resolution, a willingness to engage in “hands-on” activities as appropriate.

    · Requires highly developed communication skills to effectively work with all levels of management throughout the UnityPoint Health, its subsidiaries and affiliates.

    · Excellent academic credentials with a track record of professional accomplishments, which demonstrate superior performance, leadership and vision.

    · Possesses excellent written and verbal communications.

    · Ability to work as a team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.

    · Ability to understand and apply guidelines, policies and procedures.
