Behavioral Health Director oversees the study and treatment of patients with emotional, mental, or psychological disorders. Develops, implements, and updates strategic initiatives, programs, and services. Being a Behavioral Health Director manages and directs the operations of behavioral health services. Uses knowledge of behavioral health research and trends to ensure the department's practices are up-to-date and effective. Additionally, Behavioral Health Director establishes training programs and supports and supervises staff. Ensures all behavioral health operations comply with clinical guidelines and regulations. Requires an advanced degree in psychology or related field. Typically reports to top management. The Behavioral Health Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Behavioral Health Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. The Director of Crisis and Access Services has primary responsibility for the management, oversight, and supervision of all crisis services for the agency. These services include but are not necessarily limited to: Crisis continuum services (Emergency Services, Mobile Crisis, CIT, CIT Assessment Center. Crisis Receiving Center, Crisis Stabilization Unit services, Short-Term Crisis Counseling, Peer Services, and Marcus Alert protocols), as well as Access services (Same Day Access, Central Access for all agency offices, ages, and populations, and jail-based/forensic services). These responsibilities include child/adolescent, adult, geriatric, and all disability populations for which the agency retains responsibility. The Director will also have responsibility for growing and developing needed new services consistent with the nature of the program areas assigned elsewhere in this description.
The Director aids and supports the Board of Directors and its committees. The Director provides development and implementation of programs, services, and operations; maximization of the deployment of clinical and personnel resources; development and oversight of department budgets and fiscal performance; and oversight of personnel performance, corporate compliance, and best practice. The Director is expected to facilitate organizational excellence through work groups, committees, teams, and projects. The Director oversees mid-level leaders and department performance. The employee is expected to possess excellent management skills, including facilitation and collaboration. The employee represents the agency and provides leadership on local, regional, and state work groups, committees, and projects, participates in planning initiatives, and participates in the VA Association of Community Services Boards. The employee is expected to possess diverse skills and abilities in the administration, development and implementation of community behavioral health services and operations. Independent initiative, flexibility, and teamwork are essential.- Maximizes opportunities for consumer access to agency services in a timely, responsive and clinically appropriate manner in keeping with regulation and funder expectations.
- Management, oversight, and supervision of assigned services.
- Oversees development and implementation of the department budget, and budget performance regarding expenditures and revenues.
- Oversees monitors and ensures corporate compliance with agency policies and procedures, and all applicable external regulations.
- Develops and/or reviews department reports for the leadership, the Board of Directors, and local, regional, and state agencies or authorities.
- Oversees employment, supervision, and performance of assigned personnel.
- External management and oversight of department performance - operations and services.
- Facilitates, or participates in, planning for the department and organization.
- Collaborates with local, regional, and state agencies and organizations on behalf of the agency, to include development and planning.
- Helps to identify and prepare funding opportunities for development and growth – grants; projects; local, regional, state, and federal initiatives.
- Provides performance utilization review, evaluation, and analysis of the department – to include balanced scorecard and outcome measures as available.
- Works in collaboration with the executive leadership team, mid-level leadership, various work groups, committees and projects.
- Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
