Behavioral Health Director oversees the study and treatment of patients with emotional, mental, or psychological disorders. Develops, implements, and updates strategic initiatives, programs, and services. Being a Behavioral Health Director manages and directs the operations of behavioral health services. Uses knowledge of behavioral health research and trends to ensure the department's practices are up-to-date and effective. Additionally, Behavioral Health Director establishes training programs and supports and supervises staff. Ensures all behavioral health operations comply with clinical guidelines and regulations. Requires an advanced degree in psychology or related field. Typically reports to top management. The Behavioral Health Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Behavioral Health Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     San Luis Valley Health is seeking a full-time Behavioral Health Consultant to provide behavioral health support in the San Luis Valley Health's rural health clinics. This support will include providing preventative screenings, safety assessments and planning, crisis intervention, psychological first aid, making referrals and connecting with resources.

    What You’ll Need: 

    • Master’s degree in field of mental health (such as counseling or social work) in process, required
    • Trained in crisis and emergency intervention, preferred 
    • BLS Certification required 
    • Licensure in process, preferred (not required)
    • Must be credentialed or eligible to participate in State and Federal healthcare programs and private insurances
    • Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols and in the delivery of behavioral health care
    • Knowledge of how to assess patient health
    • Knowledge of health promotion principles, techniques, and patient learning measurements
    • Strong communication skills – clear and professional communication with patients, providers, colleagues, and administration
    • Comfortable with being a self-starter and taking initiative to respond to the needs of the team 
    • Comfortable working in a fast-paced medical setting 
    • Skilled at multi-tasking, organization, and attention to detail 
    • Competent in using basic technology 

     

    What You’ll Do 

    • Work as part of a care team, assigned to a group of providers/panel of patients
    • Conduct proactive chart scrubbing to identify patients in need
    • Attend daily huddles with clinic teams
    • Perform proactive patient screening to identify patient needs
    • Provide brief interventions and skills training in exam rooms
    • Facilitate warm handoffs with primary care providers
