    The Grand Forks County Correctional Center (GFCCC), currently a 242-bed facility located at 1701 N Washington St., Grand Forks, ND, is recruiting for the position of Correctional Center Captain

    This is a full-time, regular position (based on 40 hours per week), benefit eligible. There might be a variation to work hours and days to support the department and County needs.  Come and join our team!

    •  Motivate and develop employees by creating a collaborative work environment
    • Promote a diverse and respectful workforce
    • Plan, organize, direct, manage the overall activities and operations of the Correctional Center
    • Supervision
    • Overseeing and reviewing incidents
    • High level problem solving and conflict resolution
    • Build professional relationships and team building

    Salary Range:  $78,808.18 - $112,361.63 annually (DOE) with excellent benefits (benefit information below).

    Minimum Qualifications for consideration:  Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.  A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: 

    Education:  Four-year degree in Criminal Justice, law enforcement or related field.  An appropriate combination of education and experience may be substituted for a degree.

    Experience:  Seven (7) or more years of corrections or law enforcement, with a minimum of five (5) years of supervisor experience. 

    Requirements:  Possession of a valid driver’s license prior to and during employment. 

    The ideal candidate will have the knowledge of adult corrections management, supervision, civil rights, search and seizure, rules of evidence, employee relations, the record system, and the care, custody, and control of inmates.  The judicial system, the criminal prosecution system, and state and federal criminal laws.  Prison management and criminal rehabilitation principles and practices.  Methods and techniques required to enforce discipline among inmates.  Rules and regulations governing the security of a correctional center. Statutory laws governing correctional institutions including Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), Criminal History Record Information Act and DOCR standards.  Individual and group behavior of persons in custody.  Housekeeping and sanitation requirements of a correctional facility.  Use of restraint devices and other devices used to maintain the custody and control on inmates.  Principles and processes for effective teamwork and represent the Correctional Center and County in a positive professional manner.

    SELECTION PROCESS

    Prospective employees will undergo a thorough background investigation and include a drug/ alcohol screening. 

    Each applicant’s education, training, and experience will be rated based on the required application materials submitted and the top-scoring candidates will be forwarded for further consideration. 

    DISQUALIFYING FACTORS 

    The following factors will be disqualifying:

    • A false statement or any omission of information, on the employment application, consent form, or verbally is disqualifying and grounds for termination.
    • A felony conviction.
    • Applicants on criminal probation at time of intended hire.
    • Any unlawful use of any drug while employed as a peace officer. 
    • Any involvement in the sales of illegal drugs. 
    • Lack of a valid driver’s license at time of intended hire.

    The following factors may be disqualifying:

    • Prior drug usage will be evaluated for what was used, the extent of the use, and how recent the usage has been (including marijuana). 
    • A misdemeanor conviction. 
    • A conviction for theft. Unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon. 
    • Demonstrated history of irresponsible motor vehicle operation. 
    • A “Failure to Appear” on your driving record. A D.U.I. conviction.
    • Applicants under psychological/psychiatric care.  
    • Military discipline or less than honorable discharge.  
    • Demonstrated history of financial irresponsibility.  
    • Failure to keep appointments or submit documentation in a complete, neat or timely during the background process.
