Job Title: Medical Assistant for Street Medicine Team

Employer: Whole Person Care Clinic

Location: Long Beach and its surroundings. Employee must be able to commute between different locations within the LA county mainly in Long Beach.

Pay Rate: $24-26 per hour

Position Overview:

We seek a dedicated, kind, and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our street medicine team in delivering care to individuals experiencing homelessness. Street Medicine is a set of health and social services designed to meet the unique needs and circumstances of homeless individuals, and to deliver these services to patients in their own lived environment when they cannot access care in traditional ways such as going to a clinic. Our multidisciplinary street medicine team provides outreach and care to these individuals in the field. As a Medical Assistant, your primary responsibilities will include assisting healthcare professionals and nurse practitioner interns with clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, basic wound care, helping to dispense over the counter medications, maintaining patient records, and ensuring the smooth operation of our street medicine team.

Responsibilities:

• Assist healthcare professionals with patient examinations and procedures, including taking vital signs, collecting medical histories, and preparing patients for examinations.
• Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures, such as urinalysis and EKGs.
• Administer medications and vaccines as directed by healthcare providers.
• Prepare and maintain medication bags while keeping them stocked and ready for delivering care.
• Document patient information, medical histories, and treatment plans accurately in electronic health records (EHR).
• Coordinate patient referrals to specialists, diagnostic facilities, and other healthcare providers as necessary.
• Educate patients on self-care techniques, medication administration, and follow-up instructions.
• Assist with scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and verifying insurance information.
• Adhere to all privacy and confidentiality regulations in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care and continuity.
• Open to learning and being trained by a licensed professional in delivering care, including wound care.

Qualifications:

• Part-time – 1 shift per week. The shift can be from 6 hours to 12 hours depending on weather. The shift is on Wednesdays.
• Must be Bilingual in Spanish
• Able to work and transport by themselves.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant required.
• Proven experience working as a Medical Assistant, preferably in a clinical or healthcare setting is preferable.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and basic pharmacology.
• Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and other medical software.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to empathize with patients and provide compassionate care.
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality.
• American Heart Association BLS certification is required.
• Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
