    Position Summary:
    Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Financial Aid, the Veterans Benefits/Scholarship Coordinator will manage the Southern Oregon University Foundation scholarship application process, Institutional, Third Party, Athletics, and State grant/ scholarships programs. This position requires the ability to learn, understand, and educate others about federal financial aid, state financial aid, third party funding, institutional funding, Foundation funding, etc. The Financial Aid Literacy and Scholarship Coordinator will be responsible for posting all scholarship offers on student's financial aid awards, managing the Foundation Scholarship cycle from the opening of the cycle throughout the review, close out, and rolling over of the cycle, in charge of the awarding and reconciliation of all Office of Student Access and Completion (OSAC) funds including State scholarships/grants, and be the liaison for many third party funds including the Ford Family Foundation.The individual will also serve as a liaison with the Office of Financial Aid and scholarship committees on campus, facilitate all scholarship communication, coordinate the scholarship notifications, provide reports on privately funded scholarships, and serve as main contact for scholarships for students and families. This position will involve significant interaction and collaboration with all Financial Aid staff, The Foundation Office Staff, as well as various other departments. The Financial Aid Literacy and Scholarship Coordinator must have strong communication skills, be detail-oriented, and assume a high level of responsibility, independence, and initiative.This position provides current and prospective student veterans with guidance, information, and assistance daily with Veterans Administration (VA) Educational benefits, State Tuition Assistance, and federal, state, and institutional financial aid. Coordinates all procedures required for the processing of applications for veteran benefits and the reporting of veterans' student status. Primary school representative responsible for ensuring Veterans', Reservists', Service members' and dependents' enrollment is promptly certified. Advises all veterans about their VA educational benefits and financial aid packages. Consults with Financial Aid Advisors, when necessary. Trains and provides work direction to work-study staff involved with intake and processing of veterans' documents.This is a non-classified, non-essential, FLSA exempt, full-time, benefits eligible position.This position requires access to Federal Databases. All employees with access to Federal databases must maintain any personal federal student loans in good standing. Defaults on federal student loans will disqualify an employee from initial and continuation of employment.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelors degree in a related field
    Four years of technical or professional level experience analyzing or advising and/or instructing the public concerning specific programs or processes, monitoring a program, or performing participant reviews.
    Currently have or ability to obtain current VA Certification

    Preferred Qualification :
    Experience with increased responsibility in analyzing/advising/monitoring programs and processes in a financial aid office.
    Experience with Banner Financial Aid, COGNOS reporting and Campuslogic programs, WEAMS, VA-Once, DegreeWorks
    Two or more years experience as a Veterans School Certifying Official at an institution of higher education that certifies more than 300 benefit users per semester.
    Two or more years experience as a Financial Aid Counselor with increasing responsibility
    Familiarity with higher education financial aid and residency policies. Significant experience interpreting complex state and federal veteran policies. Experience in facilitating and navigating the annual VA Compliance Survey (Audit).

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    This position must possess and maintain a current, valid Driver License.
    Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism to effectively handle a broad range of sensitive interpersonal situations.
    Demonstrated ability to interpret and consistently apply a wide variety of complex policies and procedures where specific guidelines may not always exist. Ability to work with frequent changes in policies and procedures, under pressure of deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    Ability to be flexible and understand that policies change. Ability to absorb changes and implement and follow change immediately.
    Strong analytical and research skills; ability to gather, evaluate, and to develop well-reasoned conclusions and recommendations. Ability to proactively assess work operations and anticipate potential problems; ability to develop and implement strategies for preventing/resolving problems.
    Ability to effectively perform work of a highly sensitive and confidential nature that requires access to information. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, tact, and diplomacy.
    Initiative in independently planning, organizing, and performing work assignments within broadly defined parameters.
    Ability to coordinate several functions and determine the relative importance of each; ability to work with a high level of productivity and accuracy/attention to detail. Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social media platforms, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in and outside the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
    Ability to adapt to and work effectively in a heavily bureaucratic environment which requires regular interaction with a number of levels within the organization and multiple outside agencies.
    Working knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, university infrastructure, policies and procedures.
    Ability to provide training and direction to others, as well as student assistants.
    Outstanding critical thinking skills.
    Strong attention to detail. Must be flexible and able to work under constant changes. Must be able to work independently, be self motivated, and self driven. Excellent communication and customer service skills.
    Ability to exercise sound judgment.
    Ability to work as a team member in a cross-functional environment
