Benefits Director oversees the development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures programs are chosen to be equitable, meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and to be cost effective. Being a Benefits Director establishes practices for evaluating existing benefits programs against peer organizations to determine competitiveness, trends and developments. Makes high-level decisions to modify existing benefits programs or institute new ones. Additionally, Benefits Director requires a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). Typically reports to top management. The Benefits Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Under general supervision, the incumbent in this position provides administrative, clerical and technical support within the areas of benefits and compensation.
Essential Job Functions
Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinics mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
Provides administrative and technical support for the benefits team.
Processes Leave of Absences including completion of notification letters, decision making based on certification, corresponding with employees and managers and coding information into Kronos to ensure accurate and timely payment of employees on Leave.
Enters employee information into the HR information systems and performs necessary verifications, edits and audits to ensure accuracy. Runs various reports for Leave of Absence and Benefits related needs.
Provides assistance and support for other benefit and compensation related projects including annual benefit enrollment, data entry, data verification, assembly of packets, copying, assistance with reconciliation of billing information from carriers/vendors, department filing etc.
Assists in composing and preparing correspondence for distribution. (email, mail, MTS, etc)
Processes benefit enrollment forms for new employees who are benefit eligible ensuring all forms are accounted for. Enters information into the benefit administration system. Files the benefit enrollment forms and beneficiary forms. Pulls beneficiary cards for terminated employees and places them in the employee term file.
Works closely with Employee Health and Payroll department regarding leave of absences and benefits in determining details related to employee injuries.
Completes paperwork for dependent benefit verification requests from the State of Montana and other states.
Interprets internal policies and maintains competency related to appropriate regulatory laws/guidelines. (FMLA, ADA, ACA, etc.)
Provides coverage and assistance for the main reception desk within HR. Answers telephones, assists walk-ins, maintains effective office procedures and efficient workflow processes.
Identifies needs and set goals for own growth and development; meets all mandatory system and departmental requirements.
Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.
Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization including assisting HR staff with projects as needed.
