Benefits Director oversees the development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures programs are chosen to be equitable, meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and to be cost effective. Being a Benefits Director establishes practices for evaluating existing benefits programs against peer organizations to determine competitiveness, trends and developments. Makes high-level decisions to modify existing benefits programs or institute new ones. Additionally, Benefits Director requires a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). Typically reports to top management. The Benefits Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget.     Accountabilities:
    Assists the Technical Director with all logistics and aspects of University Theatre production operations. Assists in instruction and organization of the laboratory sessions for THEA 250: Stagecraft, a required course for all theater majors, as well as supervision of student workers. Acts as a Master Electrician and Sound Engineer for events in Brehmer Theater. Maintains all property, tool, shop, audio-visual and other equipment inventory.
    PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Assists the Technical Director in creating and maintaining a safe, efficient production workshop environment.
    • Acts as a Master Electrician for the University Theatre productions, planning and implementing the hang, focus and strike of lighting instruments, and programming of lighting consoles.
    • Assists the Technical Director in conducting laboratory hours for THEA 250: Stagecraft, a required course for all theatre majors.
    • Acts and Sound Engineer for the University Theatre productions.
    • Operates, supervises and instructs inexperienced students in the use of all workshop hand and power tools, leading student labor in construction and installation of scenic elements.
    • Operates, supervises and instructs inexperienced students in the use of all rigging systems, electrical systems, and audio-visual systems in the theatre performance spaces to ensure safety and industry best practices.
    • Together with the Technical Director, makes budgetary and labor projections in relation to scenery, properties, lighting, sound and infrastructure.
    • Sources any and all materials samples as required by the Design Teams, Faculty, outside clients and the Technical Director.
    • Maintains Shop, Tools, Lighting, Properties, Audio/Visual and other equipment inventory.
    • Assists the Technical Director with training of student running crews.SECONDARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
    • Attends all Technical Rehearsals as requested by Technical Director.
    • Attends all Production Meetings and Notes sessions.
    • Provides technical support to extra-departmental events (such as student projections, Orientation, Summer Camp, etc).
    • Enforces adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to theatre practice.
    • Enforces use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPT) and standard theatre chemical, physical, and environmental Hazard Communication (HAZ-COM) practices.
    • Assists with annual inspections and maintenance of all theatre facilities and systems.
    • Recommends capital expenditures and improvements.
    • Performs other duties that enhance institutional professionalism as requested.

      Professional Experience/Qualifications
      • Experience in lighting installation, programming and operation of ION lighting consoles;
      • Experience in crew supervision;
      • Experience in scenery construction and installation;
      • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in both Windows and MacOS environment;
      • Familiarity with computer-aided drafting programs, such as AutoCAD and VectorWorks;
      • Experience in QLab and Isadora;
      • Proficiency with office productivity tools, such as Google Workspace (especially Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Calendar) and/or Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel);
      • Knowledge of audio-visual systems and their components;
      • Ability to interact in a collegial manner with a culturally diverse group of faculty, staff, and students;
      • Superb verbal and written communication skills and a high regard for detail





      Preferred Qualifications
      • Ability to work independently, be detail oriented, organized, patient and even tempered while maintaining tight production deadlines.
      • Prior experience in work with inexperienced student crews.
      • Enthusiasm for learning new skills and taking on new assignments and challenges.






      Education
      BA or BFA degree in theatre or equivalent experience is required.
