Benefits Director oversees the development, implementation, administration, and maintenance of benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures programs are chosen to be equitable, meet employee needs, comply with legal requirements, and to be cost effective. Being a Benefits Director establishes practices for evaluating existing benefits programs against peer organizations to determine competitiveness, trends and developments. Makes high-level decisions to modify existing benefits programs or institute new ones. Additionally, Benefits Director requires a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (CEBS). Typically reports to top management. The Benefits Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Benefits Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     Benefits Administrator

    Position title: Benefits Administrator

    Reports to: Director of Human Resources

    Supervises: N/A


    Position summary:

    Coordinates and is responsible for managing the administration of benefit programs such as medical, dental, group life, retirement plans, STD, FMLA and other benefits. Consults with employees on eligibility provisions and matters related to benefit programs. Maintains accurate employee records and files and ensures adherence to all regulatory requirements. Provides optimal customer service and ensures employee satisfaction.


    Duties and responsibilities:

    • Assists with design of benefit programs and setup in HRIS system (insurance, wellness, etc.)
    • Evaluates plans with service providers and brokers for accuracy (e.g., life insurance, STD, LTD, medical, dental etc.)
    • Manages open enrollments and determines employee eligibility.
    • Reconciles invoices and ensures timely payment of monthly premiums.
    • Collaborates with accounting/payroll department for payments and deductions and other matters of significance.
    • Coordinates leaves of absence and processes claims or requests (medical, dental, STD, FMLA personal leaves etc.).
    • Keeps updated employee records with all relevant information (marital status, beneficiaries, and other personal or work-related information).
    • Assists employees with SSI & SSDI, questions, requests, and documentation.
    • Informs employees of all benefit plan options they are eligible and discusses questions or concerns about enrollment or cancellation of such benefits.
    • Manages employee data using HRIS systems while ensuring accuracy.
    • Provides support to the HR team as needed.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications


    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Solid understanding of different benefit plans (retirement, health & dental insurance, etc.) and relevant regulations.
    • Strong knowledge of ACA, FMLA, ADA, I-9, and other associated regulations.
    • Understanding of data recording and analysis.
    • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
    • Good communication skills and ability to build relationships.
    • Must be customer service driven.
    • Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and tact in dealing with employees and management.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
    • Experience with HRIS systems (e.g. Paycom)
    • Proficient in MS Office.

     

    Education and work experience:

    • BS/BA in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field.
      • 3-5years proven experience as Benefits Administrator.
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
