The Benefits Supervisor is responsible for directing and planning the daily operations of the group benefit programs including group health, dental, short term and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary products, flexible spending account, leave of absence, 401(k), retirement and profit sharing. They will research and make recommendations for process improvement, policies/procedures, and benefit plan design changes as needs dictate.
Key Responsibilities:
Assists in composing/proofing team member communication materials.
Responsible for employee benefit book and plan documents; also responsible for updates/ changes in benefits as required by law.
Compiles all data, edits and organization required for the annual compensation and benefits packet.
Process benefits from GHR to Lawson
Oversees initial enrollment, changes and terminations for medical benefit plan, cancer insurance plan, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, insurance for retirees, and COBRA participants.
Responsible for all correspondence with team members regarding plan enrollment periods, plan document changes, legal requirements and any other necessary communications pertaining to the retirement and 401(k) plans and health and welfare plans.
Analyzes/monitors 401(k) and retirement plan options (such as the company match, investment options, etc.) to be sure we are offering benefits that suit our needs as a company. Recommends plan design changes as needed.
Assists Payroll and Benefits Manager in developing a departmental procedure manual for all processes/procedures used to administer the health and welfare and 401k and Retirement Plans.
Responsible for cross training and professional development of the benefits coordinators, as well as ensuring proper distribution of assignments and responsibilities throughout the team
Responsible for ACA Reporting and assisting with Benefit audits.
Oversee leave of absence
Acts as a liaison between the plan participants and plan providers regarding benefits and retirement plan problems or questions.
Conducts research for team members and/or insurance carriers to attempt to resolve various situations.
Serves as point person for all team member questions regarding the retirement and 401(k) plans assisting them with 401k loans, hardship withdrawals and distributions; Responsible for approving distributions from the 401(k) plan.
Supervises routine audits of benefit plans to ensure both the payroll system and the provider systems are accurate. Prepare reports for the Director of Benefits.
Perform other duties as requested by management
Key Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent
An Associates or Bachelor’s degree is preferred
5 years previous insurance administration experience required.
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements both adopted and pending affecting team member benefit programs, including ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Medicare and DOL requirements
Demonstrate self-motivation and initiative by developing and maintaining current information on health and welfare plans
Must show accountability, commitment to quality and teamwork
