    This position is located in Ainsworth, Nebraska. 

    Job Summary:

    The Veterinary Services Manager will report to the Chief Veterinary Officer and provide technical expertise in biosecurity and production processes. This position must be able to evaluate pig production systems and assist with the development and management of strategies to maintain high health.

    Job Description:

    • Evaluate and assist in the development of pig production systems and management of strategies to maintain high health.
    • Provide timely recommendations for short and long-term biosecurity implementation, review routine diagnostic submissions, and manage the budget for biosecurity monitoring.
    • Identify, develop, and implement biosecurity plans; train personnel, hold accountable and monitor for compliance.
    • Assess the biosecurity of farms, feed mills, and transportation providers; provide feedback to site managers and Chief Veterinary Officer to align on necessary steps to correct areas of concern.
    • Organize diagnostic testing protocols and maintain database of results; leverage information to assess future results for continuous improvement.
    • Provide farms and key stakeholders with written audit reports to drive results and accountability; follow-up and ensure completion of items identified in the audit to ensure completion.
    • Responsible for following biosecurity standards and herd health policies, which includes mandatory showering and changing into farm clothes prior to entering the farm, having no contact with other swine, and adhering to down-time requirements as established by PIC.
    • Perform other duties as determined by manager in the care and support of animals.

    Qualifications


    Job Requirements:

    • High School Graduate or equivalent
    • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
    • Travel requirements of 50% between facilities.
    • Basic knowledge of swine industry standard practices of biosecurity, health management, animal care, and food safety.
    • Understanding of the basic principles and practices of swine production management.
    • Written and verbal communication skills, including strong interpersonal communication, proactive relationship building, and effective presentation skills; ability to influence others in a positive direction.
    • Organizational, planning, and project management skills.
    • Ability to strategically prioritize and organize workflow.
    • Uncompromising commitment to disease prevention through principled biosecurity practices.
    • Adaptability to new and changing technology.
    • Competence in utilizing computer software tools including all Microsoft Office applications.
    • Ability to generate and communicate biosecurity education documents and materials to all Sandy Pine employees.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to perform the required functions of the job, including physical demands like pushing heavy feed carts up to 600 feet, handle (move by pushing or herding) adult pigs weighing over 500 pounds, kneel and bend at the waist for long periods of time, climb over 4-foot pens, climb up and balance on 16 feet high feed bins, and operate high power pressure washing equipment.
