Bereavement Coordinator plans and provides bereavement counseling and support to survivors. Assesses individual needs and coordinates with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and deliver a holistic support plan. Being a Bereavement Coordinator guides survivors to appropriate bereavement resources. Facilitates grief support group sessions. Additionally, Bereavement Coordinator requires a bachelor's degree in social work. May require the applicable State License to Practice Clinical Social Work. Typically reports to a manager. JOB DESCRIPTION : PRIMARY PURPOSE :
PRIMARY PURPOSE :
Support the implementation of the District’s pk-12 counseling program in alignment with the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs as well as other state and district requirements.
Assist in the evaluation of effectiveness of performance of counselors and provide staff development to enhance counselor skills and knowledge.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
Support in the implementation of the guidance curriculum, including providing instructional coaching to counselors as they provide direct student instruction under the MISD instructional model.
Review and approve instructional materials for district use within the guidance and counseling curriculum. Conduct onsite instructional rounds to monitor guidance instruction.
Be knowledgeable of state and local policy and instruct counselors in updated and new policies, including student health and safety.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board Policy on Evaluations.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE :
Three years of experience as a classroom teacher
Three years of school counseling experience
Counseling experience at different levels (preferred)
REQUIREMENTS :
Education / Certification :
Master’s degree in Counseling from accredited university Counselor Certification
Principal, Mid-management and / or Supervisor certification (preferred)
Licensed Professional Counselor (preferred)
Special Knowledge / Skills :
Strong organizational, communication, public relations, interpersonal, and presentation skills
Knowledge of the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs and experience in implementing counseling programs in the school setting
Knowledge of academic advising for transitioning between levels, special populations, and graduation requirements and postsecondary planning
Knowledge of best practices in crisis and threat response, including mental health and safety planning
Knowledge of best practices in social and emotional learning supports, including parent education programming
Knowledge of instructional coaching and curriculum design (preferred)
