Job Summary:
The Pipefitter will configure, install, fit, and maintain various piping systems, and ensure smooth operation of those systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
· None.
Duties/Responsibilities:
· Plans, prepares, installs, and maintains piping and plumbing systems composed of various materials; systems may include pipes, pressure and vacuum gauges, pipeline filters, steam traps, and strainer valves.
· Consults blueprints, work orders, schematics, or instructions; creates working procedure based on specifications.
· Gathers equipment and materials for the job.
· Welds, cuts, bends, threads, solders, and fits pipes.
· Attaches pipes and piping systems to walls using brackets, bracket systems, or clamps; cuts or bores holes prior to project.
· Installs various types of insulation and pipe covering; safely removes and properly discards of old coverings according to hazardous waste procedures and in accordance with EPA and OSHA requirements.
· Inspects pipes, testing for pressure and leaks; reports and/or resolves problems.
· Coordinates with manager to schedule machinery maintenance, repairs, and installation to minimize disruption to operations.
· Complies with applicable safety and building codes, regulations and best practices.
· Maintains records, including safety logs and inspection details.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Ability to read schematics and blueprints.
· Ability to use a variety of tools, which may include blowtorches, saws, pipe benders, and welding torches.
· Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Education and Experience:
· Successful completion of a four-year apprenticeship that included classroom and on-the-job instruction in pipefitting or related field.
· Valid state license.
Physical Requirements:
· Prolonged periods standing and stretching to install and repair pipes and pipe fittings.
· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
· Must possess visual acuity required to inspect piping systems and read plans or blueprints.
