Woodford Dental is a busy father-son dental practice that services a mix of both insurance and self-pay patients from Madison and the surrounding shoreline towns. As a Dental Billing Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate and timely billing and reimbursement for dental services. This is a full-time position based in our dental office.
While experience in a similar role is a plus, the most important qualifications we require are excellent customer service, confidence with computers, and willingness to learn.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Prepare and submit clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper
- Answer questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies
- Identify and resolve patient billing complaints
- Prepare, review, and send patient statements
- Evaluate patient’s financial status and establish budget payment plans; follow and report status of delinquent accounts
- Review accounts for possible assignment and make recommendations to the Billing Supervisor
- Perform various collection actions including contacting patients by phone; correct and resubmit claims to third party payers
- Process payments from insurance companies and prepare daily deposits
- Participate in educational activities and attend staff meetings
- Maintain strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Skilled in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner
- Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Ability to operate a computer, computer software, and basic office equipment
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system
- Knowledge of business office procedures
Helpful qualifications but not necessary:
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practice
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices
