This is a full-time merit position. This position will be located within KDFWR Headquarters in Frankfort, KY with statewide responsibilities for programmatic initiatives for small game (rabbits, squirrels, quail, and grouse) and turkeys. The incumbent will work with the Small Game and Grouse/Turkey Programs along with other State and Federal Partners to promote, coordinate, and implement programmatic and Wildlife Division initiatives across the state.
Incumbents working in this job title spend most of their time outdoors performing the job duties.
Responsibilities and job duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Conducts and implements the new and ongoing research, field, and human dimensions surveys while working with the landowners.
- Conducts communication and outreach for small game and turkey conservation initiatives within the programs while working with the landowners through surveys, research, and presentations.
- Completes Prescribed fire and forest management implementation, promotion, and research.
- Participates in animal capture, handling, and marking research.
- Enters survey results into small game database and maintains the reports/files.
Preferred skills may include, but are not limited to the following:
- A knowledge of small game and turkey conservation strategies.
- Knowledge of a practical experience with agricultural systems and farming.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with landowners and partner agencies.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision and with diverse clientele.
