Duties

As a Fish Biologist, you will perform the following duties:

• Participate in all aspects and phases of data collection including planning and conducting experiments; collecting data; analyzing and interpreting data using statistical and modeling methods; drawing conclusions, making recommendations for future work required in the area; and writing reports and manuscripts summarizing the findings.
• Conduct field data collection that includes a 30 year project monitoring wild juvenile salmon in Idaho, monitoring migration of adult and juvenile salmon and steelhead, and installing and maintaining telemetry arrays in the Columbia River and its estuary. Implement field methods such as backpack electrofishing, seining, trapping, identifying fish species, habitat surveys, invertebrate sampling and processing.
• Present research findings to different audiences and conduct outreach about our work to local schools and communities.
• Support shop operations including fabrication capabilities (tools, metal working, welding); use electronics (DC systems, solar charging, radio-frequency principles); work with mechanical systems (pumps, generators, outboard engines, vehicles); and potential operation of forklift and rigging.
